Radial Balance

Decorating walls in our homes with child art shows how valuable they are to the family. These radial balance transfers are very colorful. Cutting them and then taping them to a fun piece of yarn takes the experience a step further. Crayon transfer radial balance uses few supplies but provides a beautiful and successful result.

A transfer method…

For some unknown reason, I decided to draw a radial design. I was in my home studio and thinking about the upcoming school year. How am I going to teach these student this year? What lessons do I think they will enjoy with what they have in their homes? Every summer, I get sad as it comes to an end, because I have these great ideas of how I am going to spend my time and yet, I do other things and do not fulfill my list.

So here I am now thinking about school again. Lets just make it clear from the start though, I always thinking about school. Always viewing ideas and working with my kids on lesson ideas. Not to thrilled that I do this, but it must be a teacher thing.

Anyway, I cut my paper into a square and folded it. I drew some lines and folded part of it over on itself. Then I rubbed the back with a curved smooth surface to transfer the lines into another section of the paper. The goal is to make a radial balance design. So the paper is folded around the center point. While working this lesson out and filming it to practice for my students, my daughter came in.

As always, she wants to help and or learn to do it. Do you have children in your home who also wish to learn what you are doing? It is a wonderful feeling. She watches for a bit and then it is decided that I would draw and transfer and then she will color the radial balance designs.

The designs…

The results were several designs. We cut around them. Then taped them to her wall as a waving line of floating flowers. Some time ago, she and I discussed how we would place themes on her wall. During the winter my son saw me cutting out snowflakes and they landed on his wall. Snowflakes are naturally radial balance Eventually, birds and leaves will be displayed on my daughter’s wall. So stay tuned and you may receive inspiration for your walls too.
